Though the majority of their Mourvedre is used in the Esprit de Beaucastel blend, Tablas Creek sets aside a small quantity for single varietal bottling in years they feel the Mourvedre is particularly distinguished. 2010 marks the seventh varietal bottling of 100% Mourvedre for the winery. Here’s what the critics have to say about the 2010 vintage:

Wine Advocate, Robert Parker: “I find stunning beauty and purity in Tablas Creek’s 2010 Mourvèdre. Rich yet weightless, it offers up plum, camphor, tobacco, spices and mint, all to match an impossibly refined, gracious personality. The 2010 is rich yet not at all heavy. It is a wine of incomparable textural finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2014 2022. 92 Points.”

International Wine Cellar, Josh Raynolds ($40):  “Bright ruby. A fragrant bouquet evokes dark berry preserves, violet and licorice complemented by smoke and allspice notes. Sappy, smooth and expansive, offering intense blackcurrant and bitter cherry flavors underscored by a zesty mineral nuance. Chewy but fine-grained tannins give shape to the clinging finish, which leaves cherry pit and spice notes behind. 91 Points.”
